The story behind the legend
Once upon a time...
The 14-P-1 PBY-5 Catalina was flown by Ensign Tanner of VP-14 on the morning of December 7, 1941, under orders to “remain on alert during this period of heightened tension.” Just hours before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Tanner spotted a Japanese midget submarine attempting to enter the harbor. The submarine was destroyed in a combined attack by Tanner and the destroyer USS Ward.
As part of the Barnstormer Preservation Program, we are honored to produce this jacket thanks to the exceptional support of the Soaring By The Sea Foundation, which preserves and operates this magnificent Catalina from its home base in Eugene, Oregon. This outstanding foundation and its members are dedicated to preserving military aviation heritage, honoring veterans, educating future generations, and supporting both local communities and the aviation world.
For every “Cat” jacket sold, Barnstormer will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Soaring By The Sea Foundation to help keep this historic aircraft flying.
By purchasing a Barnstormer USA garment, you are helping preserve our aviation heritage and honor our veterans!
