The story behind the legend

Once upon a time...

The 89th Fighter Squadron, part of the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War, operated in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater, where it was primarily equipped with the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.

Operating from forward bases such as Dumbastapur, India, the unit carried out escort and ground support missions in support of Allied operations throughout the region. Aircraft such as the P-40 “Lulubelle” were among those flown by the squadron, reflecting the standard equipment and markings of the period. The 89th Fighter Squadron’s operations were characterized by missions launched from advanced airfields and regular participation in tactical strikes against Japanese positions.

The entire Warbird Collection is inspired by the work of renowned aviation illustrator Romain Hugault and was developed in close collaboration with him. Every piece reflects his distinctive artistic vision and his deep passion for aviation history.

For Barnstormer, collaborating with Romain Hugault has been both a true privilege and a source of great pride. It is an honor to work alongside such a highly respected artist, whose talent and dedication perfectly align with our commitment to craftsmanship, authenticity, and storytelling.

This collaboration goes far beyond design—it represents a shared vision in which art and aviation heritage come together to create something truly unique and meaningful.
