Once upon a time...
A tribute to the legendary F-14 Tomcat, the most Hollywood-esque of the U.S. Navy’s carrier-based aircraft of the 1980s.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a twin-engine carrier-based fighter jet, distinguished by its variable-geometry wings. Designed to protect the fleet from air attacks, it was the first fighter jet developed in the United States to incorporate lessons learned from the Vietnam War. It became world-famous in 1986 thanks to the movie *Top Gun*, starring Tom Cruise.
Entering service in 1974, it served for 28 years on virtually all U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, each of which carried 24 of these aircraft.
